    This resource is a 240,000-word corpus of spoken Cameroon Pidgin English (CPE), a widely-used yet stigmatised and largely uncodified pidgin/creole variety. The corpus consists of transcriptions of private and public dialogues and monologues, with mark-up and POS-tagging, together with accompanying sound files. The recordings were conducted in five different locations in Cameroon (Bamenda, Buea, Douala, Kumba and Yaounde), allowing some insights into regional variation. Text categories and the proportions of monologue and dialogue are guided by those of the International Corpus of English (ICE) project, which makes the corpus immediately comparable with existing corpora of post-colonial varieties of English. Spelling: since there is no standardised orthography for CPE, the orthography adopted for this project is based on that developed by Ayafor (2014), which was kept under review during the course of the project. Annotation was added to the transcriptions based on ICE guidelines for the annotation of spoken texts: standard mark-up symbols were used to denote text unit, speaker identification, overlapping speech, unclear words, uncertain transcriptions, anthropo-phonics, editorial comments, foreign words and indigenous language words. Tagging: a tagset for CPE was devised based on CLAWS 5. Initially tagging was conducted manually, and then by means of TreeTagger. A third of the corpus has been post-checked, with accuracy rates at 94%. The corpus is aimed at providing a resource for linguistic description and comparison. It allows linguists to identify and describe recurring grammatical patterns, as well as the phonology of the language (given the availability of sound files deposited with the text files). It also allows comparison of CPE with other pidgin/creole languages, other Cameroonian and West African languages, and other varieties of post-colonial English. Furthermore, the corpus provides an exceptional resource for the study of general/theoretical linguistics, creolistics, typology, language contact and change, sociolinguistics and discourse analysis. The corpus contains 80 sound recordings of monologues (scripted and unscripted) and dialogues (public and private). Each sound file (in .wav format) is 10-15 minutes in length. These recordings have been transcribed (each approximately 3,000 words in length) and annotated. Transcriptions are submitted in two formats: (a) plain transcription (with basic markup indicating speaker turns, overlaps, etc.), and (b) a POS-tagged version, which adds POS-tags to the plain version of the transcription. The language of the monologues is Cameroon Pidgin English, with codeswitching into English, French, and indigenous Cameroonian languages. The accompanying documentation includes (i) a list of submitted files, (ii) a list of participant data, (iii) a tagging guide, (iv) a word list and spelling guide.

    The data set includes data for anisotropic ice templated collagen scaffold production including temperature and strut orientation data. Data was collected via uCT imaging of ice templated collagen scaffolds. Data was also collected via time dependent thermocouple readings and compression testing. The data set also includes simulation results from a 3D diffusion model of water solidification designed to mimic the experimental set up for ice templating. Data was exported from comsol.     The questionnaire is related to 'Of global reach yet of situated contexts: an examination of the implicit and explicit selection criteria that shape digital archives of historical newspapers', forthcoming in Archival Science.Abstract:A large literature addresses the processes, circumstances and motivations that have given rise to archives. These questions are increasingly being asked of digital archives, too. Here, we examine the complex interplay of institutional, intellectual, economic, technical, practical and social factors that have shaped decisions about the inclusion and exclusion of digitised newspapers in and from online archives. We do so by undertaking and analysing a series of semi-structured interviews conducted with public and private providers of major newspaper digitisation programmes. Our findings contribute to emerging understandings of factors that are rarely foregrounded or highlighted yet fundamentally shape the depth and scope of digital cultural heritage archives and thus the questions that can be asked of them, now and in the future. Moreover, we draw attention to providers’ emphasis on meeting the needs of their end-users and how this is shaping the form and function of digital archives. The end user is not often emphasised in the wider literature on archival studies and we thus draw attention to the potential merit of this vector in future studies of digital archives.

    The Visean stage of the Mississippian was a time of rapid tetrapod diversification which marks the earliest appearance of temnospondyls, microsaurs and the limbless aïstopods. Tetrapod finds from this stage are very rare and only a dozen sites are known worldwide. Here we announce the discovery of a new Visean site in Fife, Scotland, of Asbian age, and from it describe a new species of the baphetoid Spathicephalus. These specimens represent the oldest known baphetoid by three million years, yet belong to the most specialized members of the clade. Unlike typical baphetoids with large marginal teeth and palatal fangs characteristic of early tetrapods, spathicephalids had very broad flattened heads with a dentition consisting of a large number of small, uniform teeth. Spathicephalids were probably one of the earliest tetrapod groups to use suction feeding on small, aquatic prey. Palynological and sedimentological analysis indicates that the new fossil bed was deposited in a large, stratified, freshwater lake that became increasingly saline. Smithson et al.     This paper investigates the effect of gender-related culture on the math gender gap by analysing math test scores of second-generation immigrants, who are all exposed to a common set of host country laws and institutions. We find that immigrant girls whose parents come from more gender-equal countries perform better (relative to similar boys) than immigrant girls whose parents come from less gender-equal countries, suggesting an important role of cultural beliefs on the role of women in society on the math gender gap. The transmission of cultural beliefs accounts for at least two thirds of the overall contribution of gender-related factors.

    Description and NotesDescription: Methane concentration from the Greenland NEEM-2011-S1 Ice Core from 71 to 408m depth (~270-1961 CE). Methane concentrations analysed online by laser spectrometer (SARA, Spectroscopy by Amplified Resonant Absorption, developed at Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire de Physique, Grenoble, France) on gas extracted from an ice core processed using a continuous melter system (Desert Research Institute). Methane data have a 5 second integration time (raw data acquisition rate 0.6 Hz). Analytical precision, from Allan Variance test, is 0.9 ppb (2 sigma). Long-term reproducibility is 2.6% (2 sigma). Gaps in the record are due to problems during online analysis. Online analysis conducted August-September 2011.Note: Lat-Long provided is for main NEEM borehole. The NEEM-2011-S1 core was drilled 200 m distance away in 2011 to 410 m depth.Methane concentrations are reported on NOAA2004 scale (instrument calibrated on dry synthetic air standards).A correction factor of 1.079 has been applied to all data to correct for methane dissolution in melted ice core sample prior to gas extraction.     This resource is a 240,000-word corpus of spoken Cameroon Pidgin English (CPE), a widely-used yet stigmatised and largely uncodified pidgin/creole variety. The corpus consists of transcriptions of private and public dialogues and monologues, with mark-up and POS-tagging, together with accompanying sound files. The recordings were conducted in five different locations in Cameroon (Bamenda, Buea, Douala, Kumba and Yaounde), allowing some insights into regional variation. Text categories and the proportions of monologue and dialogue are guided by those of the International Corpus of English (ICE) project, which makes the corpus immediately comparable with existing corpora of post-colonial varieties of English. Spelling: since there is no standardised orthography for CPE, the orthography adopted for this project is based on that developed by Ayafor (2014), which was kept under review during the course of the project. Annotation was added to the transcriptions based on ICE guidelines for the annotation of spoken texts: standard mark-up symbols were used to denote text unit, speaker identification, overlapping speech, unclear words, uncertain transcriptions, anthropo-phonics, editorial comments, foreign words and indigenous language words. Tagging: a tagset for CPE was devised based on CLAWS 5. Initially tagging was conducted manually, and then by means of TreeTagger. A third of the corpus has been post-checked, with accuracy rates at 94%. The corpus is aimed at providing a resource for linguistic description and comparison. It allows linguists to identify and describe recurring grammatical patterns, as well as the phonology of the language (given the availability of sound files deposited with the text files). It also allows comparison of CPE with other pidgin/creole languages, other Cameroonian and West African languages, and other varieties of post-colonial English. Furthermore, the corpus provides an exceptional resource for the study of general/theoretical linguistics, creolistics, typology, language contact and change, sociolinguistics and discourse analysis. The corpus contains 80 sound recordings of monologues (scripted and unscripted) and dialogues (public and private). Each sound file (in .wav format) is 10-15 minutes in length. These recordings have been transcribed (each approximately 3,000 words in length) and annotated. Transcriptions are submitted in two formats: (a) plain transcription (with basic markup indicating speaker turns, overlaps, etc.), and (b) a POS-tagged version, which adds POS-tags to the plain version of the transcription. The language of the monologues is Cameroon Pidgin English, with codeswitching into English, French, and indigenous Cameroonian languages. The accompanying documentation includes (i) a list of submitted files, (ii) a list of participant data, (iii) a tagging guide, (iv) a word list and spelling guide.

    The data set includes data for anisotropic ice templated collagen scaffold production including temperature and strut orientation data. Data was collected via uCT imaging of ice templated collagen scaffolds. Data was also collected via time dependent thermocouple readings and compression testing. The data set also includes simulation results from a 3D diffusion model of water solidification designed to mimic the experimental set up for ice templating. Data was exported from comsol.     The questionnaire is related to 'Of global reach yet of situated contexts: an examination of the implicit and explicit selection criteria that shape digital archives of historical newspapers', forthcoming in Archival Science.Abstract:A large literature addresses the processes, circumstances and motivations that have given rise to archives. These questions are increasingly being asked of digital archives, too. Here, we examine the complex interplay of institutional, intellectual, economic, technical, practical and social factors that have shaped decisions about the inclusion and exclusion of digitised newspapers in and from online archives. We do so by undertaking and analysing a series of semi-structured interviews conducted with public and private providers of major newspaper digitisation programmes. Our findings contribute to emerging understandings of factors that are rarely foregrounded or highlighted yet fundamentally shape the depth and scope of digital cultural heritage archives and thus the questions that can be asked of them, now and in the future. Moreover, we draw attention to providers’ emphasis on meeting the needs of their end-users and how this is shaping the form and function of digital archives. The end user is not often emphasised in the wider literature on archival studies and we thus draw attention to the potential merit of this vector in future studies of digital archives.
