    ESPAÑOL: En esta comunicación se hace un breve recorrido por el color en las bóvedas de crucería a través de algunas representaciones pictóricas, relacionándolas con algún ejemplo de edificaciones existentes que han llegado hasta nosotros prácticamente intactas. Se pretende asimismo, aportar un nuevo punto de vista al tratar de relacionar el empleo del color con aspectos geométricos. Se incluye también en la presente comunicación algún ejemplo que demuestra la presencia de decoración pictórica en las bóvedas de algunos edificios valencianos a partir de los restos de policromía localizados en algunos elementos de las mismas (nervios, claves o plementos) que permanecen en pie. También se incluye alguna muestra de restos de color en piezas halladas en excavaciones arqueológicas. En concreto, adjuntamos imágenes de las bóvedas del monasterio de la Trinidad y de la catedral de Valencia, de la iglesia de Santa María de Sagunto y una clave del monasterio de Santa María de la Valldigna (Simat de Valldigna, Valencia), con el fin de mostrar alguna relación entre los colores de dichos elementos y los ejemplos de decoraciones pictóricas analizados. ENGLISH: In this paper we do a brief tour of the color in the cross vaults through some pictorial representations, relating them with some examples of existing buildings that have come down to us practically intact. We also intended to bring a new point of view to try to relate the use of color with geometric aspects. There is also included in this communication an example which shows the presence of decorative paintings in the vaults of some Valencian buildings from the remains of polychromy in some elements of them (ribs, keys, or severies) that remain standing. There is also some sample paint in pieces found in archaeological excavations. In particular, we enclose images of the vaults of the Trinity monastery and the Valencia Cathedral, off the Santa Maria Church (Sagunto, Valencia), and a key of the “Santa María de la Valldigna” monastery (Simat de Valldigna, Valencia), in order to find any relationship between the colors of these elements and analyzed examples of pictorial decorations.

    Authors: Gómez Enguidanos, Ricardo;

    L'objectiu d'aquest treball és donar a conèixer la tècnica constructiva tradicional de la volta, la seua eficàcia en l'arquitectura present; i la seua importància en el futur. El TFG se centra en l'estudi de voltes construïdes sense cintra, més detalladament en l'ancestral tècnica de la volta núbia. Es tracta d’un sistema que permet la construcció barata i ecològica d'un sostre durador per a les poblacions més empobrides sense necessitat d'utilitzar fusta per a la seua construcció, en zones on aquesta escasseja. El treball indaga y descriu l'origen d'aquesta volta, a més de la seua aplicació actual en diferents països i a diferents nivells d'arquitectura, a través de l'Associació Nubian Vault que ha codificat i simplificat aquesta antiga tècnica. També s’analitzarà pas a pas el seu procés de construcció. Un altre punt important en aquest treball, és la comparació amb altres tècniques constructives tradicionals semblants. Finalment i no menys important, es realitza una anàlisi aïllat i es valoren els avantatges i inconvenients del seu ús. El objetivo de este trabajo es dar a conocer la técnica constructiva tradicional de la bóveda, su eficacia en la arquitectura presente; y su importancia en el futuro. Nos centraremos en el estudio de bóvedas construidas sin cimbra, más detalladamente en la ancestral técnica de la bóveda Nubia. Un sistema que permite la construcción barata y ecológica de un techo duradero para las poblaciones más empobrecidas sin necesidad de utilizar madera para su construcción, en zonas donde ésta escasea. El trabajo informa sobre el origen de esta bóveda. Observaremos su aplicación actual en distintos países y a diferentes niveles de arquitectura, a través de la Asociación Nubian Vault que ha codificado y simplificado esta antigua técnica. También analizaremos paso a paso su proceso de construcción. Otro punto importante en este trabajo, es la comparación con otras técnicas constructivas tradicionales semejantes. Por último y no menos importante, se realizará un análisis aislado y se valoran sus ventajas e inconvenientes de su uso. The objective of this work is to make known the traditional construction technique of the vault, its effectiveness in present architecture; and its importance in the future. We will focus on the study of the constructions without formwork, more in detail in the ancestral technique of the Nubian vault. A system that allows the cheap and ecological construction of a durable roof for the most impoverished populations without the need to use wood for its construction, in areas where it is scarce. The work informs about the origin of this vault. Observe its real application in different countries and different levels of architecture, through the Nubian Vault Association that has codified and simplified this ancient technique. We will also analyze your construction process step by step. Another important point in this work is the comparison with other similar traditional construction techniques. Last, but not least, an isolated analysis was carried out and its advantages and disadvantages of its use were evaluated.

    Authors: De Feo, Emanuela;

    The oldest medieval domus in Ravello date back to the twelfth century, as an evolution of the original house with barrel vaults, a primitive stone construction with walls of dry masonry of limestone and almost always connected to an olive grove or a vineyard, widespread on the Campania coasts between the island of Capri, the coast of Sorrento and that of Amalfi. Vertical and horizontal aggregations of this module have constituted, over time, the evolution of the building typology, while retaining some of the pre-existing architectural elements and the peculiar construction characteristics, including the strong link of this architecture with the particular orography of the territory. The private building complexes are the result of this ongoing process, consisting of various rooms connected to each other and arranged on several levels, in which the members of a single family lived with their servants. The entire structure was surrounded by walls and defended by towers. The interiors consisted of rooms heated by fireplaces, kitchens, furnaces, Arab baths, cisterns, wells, cellars, warehouses, stables, rooms for winemaking, gardens and cultivated terraces. The paper analyzes the history and construction features of one of the few medieval domus still existing and which has not undergone substantial transformations, also because it was brought to light only in the last decade of the twentieth century, currently located in the boundaries of Villa Rufolo in Ravello. Its original conformation is hypothesized, thanks also to a description made of it in the archive documents. The paper also reports the work carried out on the case study in order to undertake a cataloguing of a heritage in continuous discovery.

    La comunicación gira entorno a una reflexión sobre las ruinas y la idea de fragmentación a la que nos remiten, obra del tiempo y la historia. Se establece una relación entre el término "fragmento" enlazando con el de "deconstrucción" y de reconstrucción, pasando por el concepto de anastilosis recogido en diversas Cartas del Restauro. A partir de dichos conceptos se hace una traslación al concepto de anastilosis virtual relacionándolo con la reconstrucción virtual de la bóveda estrellada que cubría el monasterio de Santa María ubicado en Simat de Valldigna (Valencia, España) realizada a partir de las ruinas y fragmentos estudiados por la autora de la comunicación.

    Authors: Mileto, Camilla; Vegas López-Manzanares, Fernando;

    [ES] Las bóvedas, construidas en masa o tabicadas, constituyen un elemento característico de la arquitectura valenciana tanto monumental como vernácula. Su presencia está documentada desde principios de la Edad Media con ejemplos importantes de bóvedas construida en masa en las torres islámicas (siglos XI-XIII) de la provincia de Valencia. Por otro lado, la bóveda tabicada, empleada como encofrado o como elemento constructivo autónomo, también tiene sus primeros testigos materiales en la Edad Media sobre todo a partir del siglo XIV. Además del estudio de las bóvedas presentes en las torres islámicas, en este texto se analiza el caso específico del Castillo de Petrés (Valencia) que ofrece un ejemplo de convivencia de los dos sistemas constructivos en un lapso temporal que abarca desde finales del siglo XIV hasta el siglo XVI. La comparación entre los casos analizados permite mostrar la riqueza de los sistemas empleados para la puesta en obra tanto de las bóvedas en masa como de las bóvedas tabicadas en el territorio valenciano y su desarrollo a lo largo de la Edad Media. [EN] Vaults, built either with lime-based concrete poured on a formwork or with thin tiles laid flat, constitute a characteristic element of Valencian architecture, both representative and vernacular. Lime-based oncrete vaults are documented from the beginning of the Middle Ages, with important examples of massive vaults built in the Islamic towers (11th-13th centuries) of the province of Valencia. The flat-tile vault, either used as a formwork or as an autonomous constructive element, also starts in medieval times, especially since the 14th century. In addition to the study of vaults in Islamic towers, this text analyses the specific case of Petrés Castle (Valencia) that offers an example of coexistence of the two construction systems, in a period stretching from the late 14th century until the 16th century. A comparison between the analysed cases reveals the richness of both this massive concrete vaults and flat-tile vaults in the Valencian territory, and their development throughout the Middle Ages.

    Authors: Gilabert Sansalvador, Laura;

    Con una larga tradición constructiva que abarca más de diez siglos, la bóveda es uno de los elementos más característicos de la arquitectura maya. Este sistema de cubierta de fábrica de piedra, basado en el principio de aproximación de hiladas, muestra, por un lado, la continuidad que tuvieron las técnicas constructivas en esta antigua civilización y, por otro, las diferencias en la evolución tecnológica que se dieron entre las distintas regiones de las Tierras Bajas Mayas. Esta tesis doctoral aborda el estudio de la bóveda maya mediante el registro y el análisis minucioso de una amplia muestra de bóvedas de diferentes zonas geográficas y períodos cronológicos. La información obtenida del trabajo de campo, complementada con la de las fuentes bibliográficas, se ha introducido en una base de datos de bóvedas mayas diseñada ex profeso que permite archivar, analizar y comparar todas las características de las bóvedas. A partir del análisis de este corpus de bóvedas desde un punto de vista arquitectónico, atendiendo a diferentes aspectos como la forma, la geometría, la función, el simbolismo y las características constructivas del espacio abovedado, con especial atención a los avances tecnológicos que se producen, se propone una clasificación general de la bóveda maya según varios criterios. Mediante el estudio comparativo de la muestra se han identificado los rasgos característicos y las particularidades de las bóvedas de varias zonas geográficas y se ha analizado su evolución a lo largo del tiempo, lo que permite formular hipótesis sobre las relaciones históricas entre las diferentes regiones y las posibles transferencias del conocimiento constructivo. Además, la observación del estado de conservación actual de los edificios estudiados nos ha permitido analizar los procesos de deterioro que afectan a estas estructuras y proponer como conclusión unos criterios generales aplicables a la excavación, conservación y restauración de los edificios abovedados mayas, una arquitectura de gran valor patrimonial y que, en muchos casos, se encuentra en grave riesgo de conservación. Amb una extensa tradició constructiva de més de deu segles, la volta és un dels elements més característics de l'arquitectura maia. Aquest sistema de coberta de fàbrica de pedra, basat en el principi d'aproximació de filades, mostra, per una banda, la continuïtat que tingueren les tècniques constructives en aquesta antiga civilització i, d'altra banda, les diferències en l'evolució tecnològica que es produïren entre les diferents regions de les Terres Baixes Maies. Aquesta tesi doctoral aborda l'estudi de la volta maia mitjançant el registre i l'anàlisi minuciós d'una amplia mostra de voltes de diferents zones geogràfiques i períodes cronològics. La informació obtinguda en el treball de camp, complementada amb la de les fonts bibliogràfiques, s'ha introduït en una base de dades de voltes maies dissenyada expressament i que permet arxivar, analitzar i comparar totes les característiques de les voltes. A partir de l'anàlisi d'aquest corpus des d'un punt de vista arquitectònic, atenent a diferents aspectes com la forma, la geometria, la funció, el simbolisme i les característiques constructives de l'espai voltat, amb especial atenció als avenços tecnològics que es produeixen, es proposa una classificació general de la volta maia segons diferents criteris. Durant l'estudi comparatiu de la mostra s'han identificat els trets característics i les peculiaritats de les voltes de diverses zones geogràfiques i s'ha analitzat la seua evolució al llarg del temps, el que permet formular hipòtesis sobre les relacions històriques entre les diferents regions i sobre les possibles transferències del coneixement constructiu. A més, l'observació de l'estat de conservació actual dels edificis estudiats ens ha permés analitzar els processos de deteriorament que afecten a aquestes estructures, i proposar com a conclusió uns criteris generals aplicables a l'excavació, conservació i restauració dels edificis voltats maies, una arquitectura de gran valor patrimonial i que, en molts casos, es troba en greu risc de conservació. The vault, used by the ancient Maya for more than ten centuries, is one of the most characteristic elements of Mayan architecture. This stone roof system, based on the principle of corbelling, shows, on the one hand, the continuity of construction techniques employed by this ancient civilization and, on the other hand, how technological progress differs between the regions of the Maya Lowlands. The present doctoral thesis examines the Mayan vault by recording and analysing a wide sample of vaults from different geographical zones and chronological periods. The data collected during fieldwork was complemented by results from previous studies and put into a database that was created to archive, analyse and compare all the features of the vaults. This corpus was then analysed from an architectural perspective, taking into account aspects such as form, geometry, function, symbolism and constructive features of the vaulted spaces, and paying special attention to the technological developments that were observed. Based on this analysis, a general classification of the Mayan vault according to various criteria was proposed. The comparative analysis of the sample allowed to identify the particularities and the most characteristic features of the vaults of various geographical areas, as well as to study their development over time. In the light of the results, hypotheses may be formulated on the historical relationships between the different regions and the possible transfers of building knowledge. Moreover, the evaluation of the buildings' current state of conservation allowed the author to determinate the deterioration processes that affect them. Therefore, some general criteria were also proposed for the excavation, conservation and restoration practices in the Mayan vaulted buildings, an architecture with a great heritage value but which often presents serious conservation problems.

    [ES] Entre las dos conocidas Torres de Quart de la muralla medieval de Valencia se dispone una tribuna central cubierta por una bóveda de crucería esviada en la que se abandonan, por primera vez en el gótico valenciano, las soluciones lineales de nervaduras y plementería típicas de la época para emplear únicamente piezas de piedra tallada. Este planteamiento constructivo conlleva una serie de nuevos problemas geométricos en la traza y labra de las dovelas que son más propios de la estereotomía renacentista que de la cantería gótica; por esta razón, la pieza reviste un interés excepcional desde el punto de vista de la Historia de la Construcción en el ámbito ibérico. En este trabajo presentamos un levantamiento fotogramétrico riguroso de la bóveda a partir del cual estudiamos su forma, despiezo y construcción, es decir, su estereotomía. [EN] The central part of the Portal de Quart, one of two surviving gates of the Mediaeval city walls of Valencia, includes a skew ribbed vault, placed over the central tribune, that eschews, for the first time in Hispanic Gothic, the usual solutions based on ribs and severies, using instead only whole ashlars. Such choice poses a number of new geometric problems connected with the design and execution of the vault, which are closer to Renaissance stereotomy than Gothic stonecutting. All this makes the vault a member of outstanding importance for Iberian Construction History. In our paper we present a precise photogrammetrical survey of this vault and, building on it, a study of its geometrical form and construction.

    [ES] La adscripción de Bonet Castellana al surrealismo desde su juventud, será determinante en el desarrollo de su obra. Desde el proyecto de la Maison Jaoul que realiza en el taller de Le Corbusier, iniciará la búsqueda de lo individual en su obra. El edificio de talleres de Paraguay-Suipacha será el exponente de toda la carga ideológica recibida en París y que perdurará a lo largo de su trayectoria. En la obra que Antonio Bonet realiza en La Manga del Mar Menor, este propone y ensaya diversos sistemas de cubrición abovedados que aplicará en el resto de su obra. El regreso al Mediterráneo acabará de conformar el espíritu de Antonio Bonet. [EN] Bonet Castellana’s secondment to surrealism from his childhood will be decisive in the development of his work. From the Project of Maison Jaoul performed in Le Corbusier’s Studio, he will start the search of individualism in his work. The workshops building of Paraguay-Suipacha will be the exponent of the ideological burden received in Paris and it will endure along his career. In Antonio Bonet’s work made in La Manga del Mar Menor, he proposes and rehearses several vaulted roof systems that he will apply to the rest of his work. The return to the Mediterranean will shape Antonio Bonet’s spirit.

    Authors: Pastor Climent, Adrián;

    [EN] The work would pose as main objective to make a geometric analysis of radial simple cross vaults built between the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries in Valencian lands. The work would focus on the vault of the baptistery chapel of the church of the Santa Maria del Puig monastery. It would make the analysis of its general geometric configuration as of the elements that make them (profiles of nerves, arches, keys, springings, severies, ...). To do the work it is necessary to made surveyings with direct or traditional measurement, photogrammetry and / or 3D laser scanner would be made. [CA] El treball planteja com objectiu principal desenvolupar una anàlisi geomètrica de voltes de creueria simple construïdes entre els segles XIII i XVI en terres valencianes centrant-se en la volta de la capella baptismal de l´església del Monestir de Santa Maria de El Puig, de tipologia radial. Es fará l´anàlisi tant de la seua configuració geomètrica general com dels elements que la conformen (perfils de nervis, arcs, claus, enjarjes, plementeries,…). Per aquesta raó, es realitzaran alçaments amb mesurament directe o tradicional i fotogrametría i/o escàner làser 3D [ES] El trabajo plantearía como objetivo principal hacer un análisis geométrico de bóvedas de crucería simple construidas entre los siglos XIII y XVI en tierras valencianas, centrándose en la bóveda de la capilla bautismal de la iglesia del Monasterio de Santa María del Puig.

    Authors: Gómez Enguidanos, Ricardo;

    L'objectiu d'aquest treball és donar a conèixer la tècnica constructiva tradicional de la volta, la seua eficàcia en l'arquitectura present; i la seua importància en el futur. El TFG se centra en l'estudi de voltes construïdes sense cintra, més detalladament en l'ancestral tècnica de la volta núbia. Es tracta d’un sistema que permet la construcció barata i ecològica d'un sostre durador per a les poblacions més empobrides sense necessitat d'utilitzar fusta per a la seua construcció, en zones on aquesta escasseja. El treball indaga y descriu l'origen d'aquesta volta, a més de la seua aplicació actual en diferents països i a diferents nivells d'arquitectura, a través de l'Associació Nubian Vault que ha codificat i simplificat aquesta antiga tècnica. També s’analitzarà pas a pas el seu procés de construcció. Un altre punt important en aquest treball, és la comparació amb altres tècniques constructives tradicionals semblants. Finalment i no menys important, es realitza una anàlisi aïllat i es valoren els avantatges i inconvenients del seu ús. El objetivo de este trabajo es dar a conocer la técnica constructiva tradicional de la bóveda, su eficacia en la arquitectura presente; y su importancia en el futuro. Nos centraremos en el estudio de bóvedas construidas sin cimbra, más detalladamente en la ancestral técnica de la bóveda Nubia. Un sistema que permite la construcción barata y ecológica de un techo duradero para las poblaciones más empobrecidas sin necesidad de utilizar madera para su construcción, en zonas donde ésta escasea. El trabajo informa sobre el origen de esta bóveda. Observaremos su aplicación actual en distintos países y a diferentes niveles de arquitectura, a través de la Asociación Nubian Vault que ha codificado y simplificado esta antigua técnica. También analizaremos paso a paso su proceso de construcción. Otro punto importante en este trabajo, es la comparación con otras técnicas constructivas tradicionales semejantes. Por último y no menos importante, se realizará un análisis aislado y se valoran sus ventajas e inconvenientes de su uso. The objective of this work is to make known the traditional construction technique of the vault, its effectiveness in present architecture; and its importance in the future. We will focus on the study of the constructions without formwork, more in detail in the ancestral technique of the Nubian vault. A system that allows the cheap and ecological construction of a durable roof for the most impoverished populations without the need to use wood for its construction, in areas where it is scarce. The work informs about the origin of this vault. Observe its real application in different countries and different levels of architecture, through the Nubian Vault Association that has codified and simplified this ancient technique. We will also analyze your construction process step by step. Another important point in this work is the comparison with other similar traditional construction techniques. Last, but not least, an isolated analysis was carried out and its advantages and disadvantages of its use were evaluated.

    Authors: De Feo, Emanuela;
