Cette région de l’empire romain y est représentée sous les traits d’une Amazone accompagnée du cheval. À travers une analyse iconographique des types monétaires, il s’agit de cerner et de comprendre l’image, les formes de représentation de cette région d’Afrique romaine. Double féminin du cavalier maure, l’Amazone s’est imposée, sous l’influence d’Hadrien, pour incarner Mauretania dans ce monnayage. Hadrian’s mintage is the first imperial mintage to feature Mauretania personified on its reverses. This region of the Roman Empire is represented on it as an Amazon accompanied by a horse. Through an iconographic analysis of the monetary types, the issue is to identify and comprehend the image, the representative forms of this region of Roman Africa. Feminine double of the Moorish rider, the Amazon imposed herself as the incarnation of Mauretania on this mintage under the influence of Hadrian. Kasdi Zheira.
