At the time present, it is obviously seen that art cannot remain pure (clean, absolute). Çağdaş Sanatta melez Yaklaşımlar başlıklı bu çalışma; yaşadığımız ortamda, bilim ve teknolojiden ekonomik ve toplumsal alanlara kadar, ortaya çıkan türlü değişimler bugünün sanatçısını etkilemekte, ona yeni anlatım olanakları sunmakta, bu arada da modernist sanatın dışına itmektedir. Kantçı bir estetikten beslenen modernist sanat, pürizme eğilimliydi. Bugün sanatın pür (arı, katışıksız) kalamayacağı iyice ortaya çıkmış görünmektedir. Modernizmin kapı dışarı etmek istediği figür, temsil, konu anlatma, öyküleme ve resimleme (ilüstrasyon) gibi yöntem ve değerler bugün yeniden gündemdedir.Kübizm ile başlayan ve farklı sanatsal eğilimlerde kendini gösteren kolaj, montaj, asamlaj gibi `sanat dışı' nesne, kavram ve yöntemlerin sanatta kullanılması bugün artarak devam etmektedir. `Sanat dışı' nesne, kavram ve yöntemlerin sanata dâhil edilmesi melez oluşumların fitilini ateşlenmesiyle teknolojik, bilimsel, toplumsal ve siyasal açılardan değişimlerin yaşandığı bir süreç olmasıyla toplumda yaşayış ve düşünüşteki farklılıkları da beraberinde getirmiştir.     A portrait in a classical sense, is a genre of art that is used to define pictures and photographs in which face of a person whose chest or knee-level torso is visible would be portrayed. Yet apart from this definition, there are also portraits that include the entire body based on the expectations in a particular period. Regardless of how portrayed, time stops for an instant on the face of the person and this instantaneous expression hosts the traces of life. Reflection of the expression on the surface of a picture is formed with the connection between the artist and the model. Expectations of the model can directly influence the creation process of the artist, as well as becoming a manifestation tool for the same artist.The art of portraits which can be examined in various categories such as bust portraits, fayyums, self-portraits, ordered portraits, group portraits, manifestation portraits, has direct interaction with the cultural structure of the society. With changing sense of art, the content of the art also changed. Along with technological developments, the art of portrait gained a new point of view in terms of sense and form, therefore enabled artists to break out of classical methods during production processes. Particularly after 1960, versatile tendencies in art brought the art of portrait a conceptional perspective and the portrait became the expression tool of the artist. Even though a distinct perspective for portraits in contemporary art from classical period exists, there are inseparable formal similarities of the art of portraits. Regardless of the period, as long as the face of the person endures, a portrait produces an effect on the spectators and communicates in view of uniqueness of the identity and the personality.In this study, development process of the art of portrait during contemporary and post-modern period was examined and different perspectives on the art of portraits in today's art were rendered through reference artists from spatiotemporal aspect. Analysis of the works was associated with social structure and artistic perception of the period. To be able to place today's art in an accurate frame, a comprehensive literature search was carried out and the art of portrait was analyzed in a historical sense with a chronological approach. Klasik anlamda Portre, göğüs veya dize kadar olan gövde bölümünün yer aldığı bir kişinin yüzünün tasvirinin yapıldığı resim ve fotoğraflara verilen sanat türü olarak tanımlanır. Ancak bu tanımın dışında dönemin beklentilerine göre vücudun tamamını içeren portreler de bulunmaktadır. Her ne biçimde ifade edilmiş olsa da portrelerde zaman, kişinin yüzünde bir anlığına durur ve bu anlık ifadede yaşamın izleri yer alır. İfadenin resim yüzeyine yansıması sanatçı ve model arasındaki bağ ile biçimlenir. Modelin beklentileri, yansıtılmak istenen sanatçının yaratım sürecini doğrudan etki altında bırakabileceği gibi, sanatçının bir dışavurum aracına da dönüşebilmiştir.Büst portreler, fayyum, otoportre, sipariş portreler, grup portreler, dışavurum aracı olarak kullanılan portreler gibi birçok sınıfta incelenebilecek portre sanatı, toplumun kültürel yapısıyla da doğrudan ilişki içindedir. Değişen sanat anlayışıyla birlikte portre sanatının içeriği de değişmiştir. Teknolojinin gelişmesi ile de anlam ve biçim olarak yeni bir bakış açısı kazanan portre sanatı, sanatçılarının üretim süreçlerinde klasik metotların dışına çıkmasına olanak sağlamıştır. Özellikle 1960 sonrası dönemde sanattaki çok yönlü eğilimler portre sanatına da kavramsal bir bakış açısı kazandırmış ve portre, sanatçının ifade aracına dönüşmüştür. Çağdaş sanatta her ne kadar klasik dönemin bakış açısının dışında bir bakış açısıyla portre varlığını sürdürse de portreyi portre yapan biçimsel benzerlikler bulunmaktadır. Hangi dönemde yapılırsa yapılsın merkezine aldığı bireyin yüzü olduğu sürece, portre izleyicisi üzerinde bir kimliğin ve kişinin biricikliği karşısında etki yaratır ve onunla temasa geçer.Bu doğrultuda ele alınan modern ve sonrası dönemde portre sanatının gelişim süreci incelenmiş ve günümüz sanatında portre sanatına getirilen farklı bakış açıları zaman ve mekânsal boyutunda referans sanatçılar üzerinden yorumlamıştır. Eser analizleri dönemin toplumsal yapısı ve sanat algısı ile ilişkilendirilmiştir. Günümüz sanatını doğru temellere oturtmak adına geniş kapsamlı literatür taraması yapılmış, kronolojik bir yöntemle portre sanatı tarihsel açıdan analiz edilmeye çalışılmıştır. 104

    Technology occasionally has become a weapon and a great salvation at times. Owing to the fact that the art started to use technology which was known today in the second half of 19th century, it made an important progress and became a strong locution of art being turned into a strong material on a wide platformby artists while it was being sometimes remembered with praise and also with anger.Technology prepared a robust substructure for changing shell and modern process when it enabled to increase the number of art movements. While positive and social sciences, industry and trade were improving with the support of technological developments, the ongoing art entered into the period of change with the abundance of technological materials and the economic factors, mechanization and mechanical solutions and also the impact of the industrial and commercial market formed the basis of new inventions and discoveries. Those inventions brought along radical ideas which would directly influence the art. Technology provided opportunities for positive developments of artistic, scientific, cultural and sociological works and the serial production lines augmented the number of mechanized human and the economic concerns, social ambitions, power struggles took their places in the new world constantly evolving.And the contradictions and chaos emerged with that situation became the basic material of art.Here we can say that technology has become an essential material of art and artist within the modern art. Art has expressed itself and will express in all areas of technology as well as other fields growing/developing with the technology. Teknoloji bazen bir silah bazen de büyük bir kurtuluş olmuştur. Hakkında bazen övgü ile bazen de nefret ile konuşulurken, sanatın, 19. Yüzyılın ikinci yarısında bugün bilinen teknolojiyi kullanmaya başlaması, ciddi bir ivme kazanmasına sebep olmuş ve sanatçılar tarafından geniş bir zemin üzerinde güçlü bir malzemeye dönüştürülerek yine sanatın güçlü bir ifade biçimi haline gelmiştir.Teknoloji sanat akımlarının çoğalmaya başlamasına olanak tanırken kabuk değiştirme, modern süreç için sağlam bir alt yapı hazırlamıştır. Teknolojik gelişmelerin desteği ile pozitif bilimler, sosyal bilimler, endüstri ve sanayi gelişirken, eskiden yeniye süregelen sanat, teknolojik malzemenin bolluğu ile değişim sürecine girmiş, ekonomik etkenler, makineleşme ve mekanik çözümler, endüstri ve sanayideki pazarın etkisi, yeni icatların yeni buluşların temelini oluşturmuştur. Bu buluşlar sanatı doğrudan etkileyecek köklü fikirleri de beraberinde getirmiştir. Teknoloji, sanatsal, bilimsel, kültürel ve sosyolojik çalışmalar üzerinde olumlu gelişmelere imkân sağlamış, seri üretim bantları, makineleşen insanların, sayısını çoğaltmış, gittikçe hızlanan bir dünyada, ekonomik kaygılar, toplumsal hırslar, iktidar savaşları yenidünya da yerini almıştır. Bu durumun oluşturduğu çelişki ve kaos ise sanatın temel malzemesi olmuştur.Buradan yola çıkarak diyebiliriz ki, teknoloji, modern sanat içerisinde, artık, sanatın ve sanatçının vazgeçilemez bir malzemesi olmuştur. Teknoloji ile büyüyen/gelişen bütün alanlar gibi sanatta kendini teknolojinin var olduğu tüm alanlarda da kendini ifade etmiştir ve edecektir. 72

    The Rhetoric of Two Museums and the Representation and Canonization of Modern Art (1935-1975): The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Museum of Modern Art in New York Museums of modern art have determined the course of modern art history. Their contributions to the representation and canonization of modern art have been shaped by how they have presented art in their (temporary) exhibitions and publications. They have provided the public with a verbal and visual story of modern art. In order to provide greater insight into the process of the creation of the museums__ stories, this book uses __rhetoric__ to deconstruct their stories of modern art. Rhetoric is used as an analytical model to investigate the communications of modern art museums. Their goals are to communicate their stories and to persuade their various audiences of the importance of modern art. The principal strategies of classical rhetoric ethos, pathos and logos are used as the main entries for this book. Two influential museums are compared: the Museum of Modern Art (New York) and the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam). The differences in their goals, financing, audiences and positions in their societies, have determined their different persuasive strategies. By analyzing these museums as orators and deconstructing their verbal and visual rhetoric, the process of representation and canonization is clarified.

    The study titled Hybrid Approaches in Modern Art; in the media we are living in, the emerging various changes from science and technology to the economic and social fields influence today?s artist and offers him new expression possibilities and meanwhile push him out of the modernist art.Modern art which feeds on Kantian aesthetic was prone to purism. At the time present, it is obviously seen that art cannot remain pure (clean, absolute). Methods and values such as figure, representation, subject expression, narration and illustration that modernism has dismissed are once more on the front burner today.The use of ?non-art? object, concepts and methods such as clip art, montage and assembly that had began with cubism and demonstrated itself in different artistic tendencies in art is increasingly continuing.Inclusion of ?non-art? object, concepts and methods in art by igniting the wick of hybrid compositions and by becoming a process where technologic, scientific, social and political changes were experienced had brought along differences of lifestyles and thinking of the society as well.A spate of trends following each other in which artistic frames and our judgments changed, had deviated from being an object in which art is produced and observed in the end of the movement have turned into thinking fact and information object as an artistic one. As digital technology was also included in these expression methods today, working area has become wider.Hybrid compositions which emerged by the combination of new inclinations, different technique, material and disciplines in today?s art has opened new disciplines by scientific and technological items being increased within cultural and social background plan.Flowing of these developments directly in life and changing artists? positions relationship with representation and the emergence of work of hybrid art providing possibility for transition to inter-discipline, communication and being in tune with the times which had let us view hybrid reflections to our life directly by the progressing technology and indirectly to the modern art with the possibilities offered by technology. Kantçı bir estetikten beslenen modernist sanat, pürizme eğilimliydi. Bugün sanatın pür (arı, katışıksız) kalamayacağı iyice ortaya çıkmış görünmektedir. Bugün bu anlatım yöntemlerine dijital teknoloji de dâhil edildiğinden çalışma alanı daha da genişlemiştir.Günümüz sanatında yeni eğilimler, farklı teknik, malzeme ve disiplinlerin bir araya gelmesiyle ortaya çıkan melez oluşumlar kültürel ve sosyal arka plan dâhilinde, bilimsel ve teknolojik öğelerin çoğalarak sanatta yeni disiplinler açmıştır.     A portrait in a classical sense, is a genre of art that is used to define pictures and photographs in which face of a person whose chest or knee-level torso is visible would be portrayed. Yet apart from this definition, there are also portraits that include the entire body based on the expectations in a particular period. Regardless of how portrayed, time stops for an instant on the face of the person and this instantaneous expression hosts the traces of life. Reflection of the expression on the surface of a picture is formed with the connection between the artist and the model. Expectations of the model can directly influence the creation process of the artist, as well as becoming a manifestation tool for the same artist.The art of portraits which can be examined in various categories such as bust portraits, fayyums, self-portraits, ordered portraits, group portraits, manifestation portraits, has direct interaction with the cultural structure of the society. With changing sense of art, the content of the art also changed. Along with technological developments, the art of portrait gained a new point of view in terms of sense and form, therefore enabled artists to break out of classical methods during production processes. Particularly after 1960, versatile tendencies in art brought the art of portrait a conceptional perspective and the portrait became the expression tool of the artist. Even though a distinct perspective for portraits in contemporary art from classical period exists, there are inseparable formal similarities of the art of portraits. Regardless of the period, as long as the face of the person endures, a portrait produces an effect on the spectators and communicates in view of uniqueness of the identity and the personality.In this study, development process of the art of portrait during contemporary and post-modern period was examined and different perspectives on the art of portraits in today's art were rendered through reference artists from spatiotemporal aspect. Analysis of the works was associated with social structure and artistic perception of the period. To be able to place today's art in an accurate frame, a comprehensive literature search was carried out and the art of portrait was analyzed in a historical sense with a chronological approach. Klasik anlamda Portre, göğüs veya dize kadar olan gövde bölümünün yer aldığı bir kişinin yüzünün tasvirinin yapıldığı resim ve fotoğraflara verilen sanat türü olarak tanımlanır. Ancak bu tanımın dışında dönemin beklentilerine göre vücudun tamamını içeren portreler de bulunmaktadır. Her ne biçimde ifade edilmiş olsa da portrelerde zaman, kişinin yüzünde bir anlığına durur ve bu anlık ifadede yaşamın izleri yer alır. İfadenin resim yüzeyine yansıması sanatçı ve model arasındaki bağ ile biçimlenir. Modelin beklentileri, yansıtılmak istenen sanatçının yaratım sürecini doğrudan etki altında bırakabileceği gibi, sanatçının bir dışavurum aracına da dönüşebilmiştir.Büst portreler, fayyum, otoportre, sipariş portreler, grup portreler, dışavurum aracı olarak kullanılan portreler gibi birçok sınıfta incelenebilecek portre sanatı, toplumun kültürel yapısıyla da doğrudan ilişki içindedir. Değişen sanat anlayışıyla birlikte portre sanatının içeriği de değişmiştir. Teknolojinin gelişmesi ile de anlam ve biçim olarak yeni bir bakış açısı kazanan portre sanatı, sanatçılarının üretim süreçlerinde klasik metotların dışına çıkmasına olanak sağlamıştır. Özellikle 1960 sonrası dönemde sanattaki çok yönlü eğilimler portre sanatına da kavramsal bir bakış açısı kazandırmış ve portre, sanatçının ifade aracına dönüşmüştür. Çağdaş sanatta her ne kadar klasik dönemin bakış açısının dışında bir bakış açısıyla portre varlığını sürdürse de portreyi portre yapan biçimsel benzerlikler bulunmaktadır. Hangi dönemde yapılırsa yapılsın merkezine aldığı bireyin yüzü olduğu sürece, portre izleyicisi üzerinde bir kimliğin ve kişinin biricikliği karşısında etki yaratır ve onunla temasa geçer.Bu doğrultuda ele alınan modern ve sonrası dönemde portre sanatının gelişim süreci incelenmiş ve günümüz sanatında portre sanatına getirilen farklı bakış açıları zaman ve mekânsal boyutunda referans sanatçılar üzerinden yorumlamıştır. Eser analizleri dönemin toplumsal yapısı ve sanat algısı ile ilişkilendirilmiştir. Günümüz sanatını doğru temellere oturtmak adına geniş kapsamlı literatür taraması yapılmış, kronolojik bir yöntemle portre sanatı tarihsel açıdan analiz edilmeye çalışılmıştır. 104

    Technology occasionally has become a weapon and a great salvation at times. Owing to the fact that the art started to use technology which was known today in the second half of 19th century, it made an important progress and became a strong locution of art being turned into a strong material on a wide platformby artists while it was being sometimes remembered with praise and also with anger.Technology prepared a robust substructure for changing shell and modern process when it enabled to increase the number of art movements. While positive and social sciences, industry and trade were improving with the support of technological developments, the ongoing art entered into the period of change with the abundance of technological materials and the economic factors, mechanization and mechanical solutions and also the impact of the industrial and commercial market formed the basis of new inventions and discoveries. Those inventions brought along radical ideas which would directly influence the art. Technology provided opportunities for positive developments of artistic, scientific, cultural and sociological works and the serial production lines augmented the number of mechanized human and the economic concerns, social ambitions, power struggles took their places in the new world constantly evolving.And the contradictions and chaos emerged with that situation became the basic material of art.Here we can say that technology has become an essential material of art and artist within the modern art. Teknolojik gelişmelerin desteği ile pozitif bilimler, sosyal bilimler, endüstri ve sanayi gelişirken, eskiden yeniye süregelen sanat, teknolojik malzemenin bolluğu ile değişim sürecine girmiş, ekonomik etkenler, makineleşme ve mekanik çözümler, endüstri ve sanayideki pazarın etkisi, yeni icatların yeni buluşların temelini oluşturmuştur. Bu buluşlar sanatı doğrudan etkileyecek köklü fikirleri de beraberinde getirmiştir.     The Rhetoric of Two Museums and the Representation and Canonization of Modern Art (1935-1975): The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Museum of Modern Art in New York Museums of modern art have determined the course of modern art history. Their contributions to the representation and canonization of modern art have been shaped by how they have presented art in their (temporary) exhibitions and publications. They have provided the public with a verbal and visual story of modern art. In order to provide greater insight into the process of the creation of the museums__ stories, this book uses __rhetoric__ to deconstruct their stories of modern art. Rhetoric is used as an analytical model to investigate the communications of modern art museums. Their goals are to communicate their stories and to persuade their various audiences of the importance of modern art. The principal strategies of classical rhetoric ethos, pathos and logos are used as the main entries for this book. Two influential museums are compared: the Museum of Modern Art (New York) and the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam). The differences in their goals, financing, audiences and positions in their societies, have determined their different persuasive strategies. By analyzing these museums as orators and deconstructing their verbal and visual rhetoric, the process of representation and canonization is clarified.
