In this document we describe the Amsterdam Museum Linked Open Data set. The dataset is a five-star Linked Data representation and comprises the entire collection of the Amsterdam Museum consisting of more than 70,000 object descriptions. Furthermore, the institution's thesaurus and person authority files used in the object metadata are included in the Linked Data set. The data is mapped to the Europeana Data Model, utilizing Dublin Core, SKOS, RDA-group2 elements and the OAI-ORE model to represent the museum data. Vocabulary concepts are mapped to GeoNames and DBpedia. The two main contributions of this dataset are the inclusion of internal vocabularies and the fact that the complexity of the original dataset is retained.

During this workshop, Diego Pino Navarro and Allison Lund from the Metropolitan New York Library Council, introduce the audience to Archipelago’s general architecture and unique, flexible approach to metadata and media. They show live demonstrations of Archipelago instances where data and metadata values are being used/reused in a variety of commonly used standards and schemas (including IIIF V3, Dublin Core, and MODS). Using an Archipelago instance prepared with an EDM structured metadata webform and display template, and populated with freely available Europeana-sourced (consented and attributed) example digital objects and collections, they demonstrate adding new content to the repository using the supplied webform and viewing/reviewing the metadata and media for the newly created digital object(s). They then demonstrate adding an additional property or set of properties from an EDM core class to the webform and metadata display template. They then invite audience participants to interact within the same Archipelago instance to complete the same exercises demonstrated. They conclude with a brief discussion/question and answer session related to the Archipelago demonstration and EDM data modeling exercises.

Was sind eigentlich Daten? Jahrhundert darstellen. nrpages: 79 status: published

The article discusses how and to what extent the RDF data model is applied in major Spanish digital collections of heritage materials. This model, as well as Open Data and Linked Data initiatives, are introduced. Fifty-one digital repositories were analysed to determine whether they expressed their records in RDF, offered SPARQL query points searchable by external agents, and used references as property values. The Europeana EDM and OntoWeb models are also described. It is concluded that the use of RDF is unequal and excessively conditioned by the use of applications that automatically convert records into RDF triples. Few of the collections analysed give SPARQL points for external queries. Also, the use of references is linked to applications using different models: EDM or OntoWeb. Collections should enrich their data and define aggregation levels for generated RDF data in order to be disseminated, made accessible, and adapted to the semantic web.
