The dataset contains three collections of mainly literary Arabic texts from the 19th and early 20th centuries. corpus022_JurjiZaydan_Dated is a dated corpus of 22 historical novels by Jurj Zaydn. It is well established that Jurj Zaydn was publishing roughly one novel per year and the dates of publication are well known, which makes this corpus a valuable material for testing chronological changes in the style of individual writers. corpus065 is a corpus of 65 books by 8 authors; corpus300 contains 300 books by 28 authors; Texts have been collected from https://www.hindawi.org/; the original EPUB files have been converted into clean text files (UTF8 encoding) and Arabic orthography has been normalized in the following manner: short vowels removed; the orthography of alif simplified (all alifs converted into bare alifs are used); alif maqras converted to ys. For the names of authors and the names of works, the URIs follow the naming conventions used in the OpenITI project (https://github.com/openiti, for the most up-to-date description, see https://kitab-project.org/corpus-and-data). However, for better compatibility with R stylo, underscore (_) is used to connect URIs: AUTHOR_TITLE (in the dated Jurj Zaydn corpus files are named YEAR_TITLE).

Purpose: This article aims at giving an overview of recent research projects carried out by the author in early Qurʾānic manuscripts applying digital tools – in terms of imaging processing, tagging of the text and phylogenetics – thus showing the methodological implications in digitally editing manuscripts and the feasibility of a collaborative space that displays data interpreted by several scholars. Methodology: In outlining previous and future projects in early Qurʾānic manuscripts, this article is based on and discusses the new epistemological approach offered by digital editing of Qurʾānic manuscript texts by using a mark-up language to encode and share editions. The mark-up and tagging of the text are not only instruments for achieving semiotic tasks but also represent and produce a separate semiotic dimension. Findings: This research endorses the theory of manuscript editions as a field of intelligently structured possibility that displays hypotheses and allows the reader to experience the manuscript transmission and debatedness of the text. Digital philology and analysis have been applied to some Qurʾānic manuscripts proving the advantages of freeing manuscripts’ edition from the constraints of the linear, circumscribed and static page of the printed text thus offering a solution to the problem of rendering manuscript movement. Originality: This is a cutting-edge research in digital encoding and pioneer phylogenetic analysis of Qurʾānic manuscript texts. It demonstrates that the digital paradigm can offer a new epistemological approach in Qurʾānic manuscript studies through a platform that admits a great quantity of varied hypotheses and crossing boundaries. This offers a transnational and transcultural system, working with different operating systems in a plurality of transparently displayed data.

; The archives are the memory of nations and peoples, reflecting their activities at various intellectual, economic, political and social levels. Archive institutions (national and local) play a vital role in preserving the history and development of peoples as an important source of information and a repository of knowledge and records keeping, especially official ones, which supports and affirms the sovereignty, power and control of States. In this context, our study deals with the issue of digital humanities and its impact on archives and on the role of archives in maintaining national sovereignty in its traditional sense, with a focus on studying its products: the collection of digital archives. In this sense, we try to answer the following questions: To what extent have so-called digital humanities influenced the evolution of the concept “archives”, its principles, tools and performance, especially its long-term preservation methods? Are we talking about revolution or evolution in archiving? What are the important implications of digital humanities for long-term preservation of archives and the practices of professionals responsible for managing documents and data? What is the new role-played by archives in the era of digital humanities?; Les archives sont la mémoire des nations et des peuples, reflétant leurs activités aux différents niveaux intellectuel, économique, politique et social.
