In last year there have been numerous studies on pottery iconography in the Iberian period. These studies have created theoretical and methodological models that emphasize the role that the ceramic decoration has in the development of social practices. Our attempt is the analysis of geometrical and abstract decoration and for this reason we introduce a historiography and literature review of those concepts that articulate, determine and structure the decorative design. Through the analysis of various issues related to the nature of the decorative programs or painting pottery industry, we explore the value of decoration in the social use of ceramics in different regions of Iberian Culture.

We present an analysis of the pictorial set from the chapel for domestic worship, sacrarium, found in situ at the House of Larario in the Roman site of Bilbilis. A banal pictorial decoration allowed the viewer’s attention to focus on figurative decoration made of stucco. Thus, a series of mythological characters, completely intentional transmitters of symbolic language, intercept moldings and cornices that once roamed and, because of that, they decorated that stay, and also the Larario as an altar that was inserted at the bottom of the environment of our object of study.

[EN] The stratigraphic study of historic buildings lays the foundations for a new understanding and interpretation of architecture and sculpture. Decoration is not necessarily a reliable indicator of the date of a building, as decoration does not have to be contemporary with the building but may frequently be remade or reused and derived from many other and various sources. Different examples of decorative elements belonging to early medieval buildings are analyzed archaeologically. in the seventh century or, more likely, in the eighth century, which implies further effects. Knowledge about one of the most important buildings of what it was once the caput prouinciae Baetica, the majestic colossal temple that presided the known as forum novum from Colonia Patricia built from the year 25 AD., has progressively been increased because of the pass of the years and the advancement on archaeological researches in Cordoba. During the systematic study of the architectural material related to this temple, there were found a number of pieces that stylistically responded to the first half of the Second Century AD. Among them we can highlight a large fragment of architrave crowning, currently part of a private collection, which we have related to this construction because of its size and formal characteristics. The particulars of its size and style of their bands seem to correspond to the specific Trajan-Hadrian’s period, posing in this work the possibility of the restoration of this building or a part of it, in an indefinite time of the first half of this Century.
