The subject matter of the study comprises the coins with animal and mythological creature depictions dated to the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic Periods in Bursa Archaeology Museum. With this aspect of them, the artifacts selected from the museum are limited in terms of time, but spread over a wide geography spatially. The photographs belonging to the front and back sides of the coins were obtained by taking macro shots with the help of a professional camera. The backgrounds of the photographs were cleaned and included in the catalog. Vector themed drawings of the front and back sides of the coins were created via the Illustrator program. These drawings were added under the photographs in the catalog section. In this way, an integrity in the catalog with photographs and drawings was provided. The animals and mythological creatures on the coins were classified separately as typological and iconographic. It was tried to invite attention to the similarities and differences between the commonly used depictions. Accordingly, stylistic differences were also questioned. The possible reasons for the selection of the depictions on the coins by the cities is the issue that the study focuses on the most. As this phenomenon started to be scrutinized, it was concluded that these possible reasons were related to the history, mythology and belief systems, and political, commercial, and daily lives of the cities. That is to say, it was seen that the animal depictions on the front or back of the coins have a deep symbolism lying in the background rather than a visual concern. In view of the graphics and tables drawn up within the scope of the study, the quantitative classification of animals and mythological creatures was made. With the help of these numerical data, it will be possible to have an idea about the intensity of use of animal and mythological creature images in the Ancient Period. Because of the selection of coins belonging to different regions and time periods, it was ensured that the readers could follow the subject more easily with the help of the said tables and graphics.

`Sikkelerin Işığında Kabeiroi Kültü` adlı yüksek lisans tezindeki amaç, Yunan mitolojisinde yer alan ve daha çok Ege Denizi'nin kuzeyindeki bölgede ve Ege adalarında karşımıza çıkan Kabeiroi adlı mitolojik tiplerin, sikkelerde kullanılan Kabeiroi tiplerinden yola çıkarak ortaya çıkış tarihlerini, yayılım alanlarını, kutsal alanlarını ve etkileşim içinde oldukları diğer tanrıları ve kültlerini incelemek, bölgedeki önemini inanç sistemleri içinde değerlendirmektir.Tez'in ilk bölümünde Kabeiroi / Kabeiros kimdir, sayıları, kökenleri hakkında Antik yazarlar bilgi verilmektedir. Tez'in yedinci bölümünde Kabeiroi kültünün bulunduğu yerleşimler hakkında bilgi verilmektedir. Tezin sekizinci bölümünde sikkeler ve diğer görsel malzemeler üzerinde Kabeiroi tipleri üç tipe ayırarak incelenmiştir. The aim in my master's thesis entitled `Cabeiri Cult in the light of Coins`, is to examine the date of emergence, expansion areas, holy areas and the other Gods and cults which they were involved in an interaction, and to evaluate its importance within the belief systems in the region by starting from the coins belonging to the types called Cabeiri taken place in Greek mythology and mostly appeared in the northern region of the Aegean Sea and the islands. Information concerning who are the Cabeiris and their numbers and origins are given in the first four sections of the thesis by starting from the antique scripts. The etymological origin of the word `Cabeiri` and the opinions of the Antique authors concerning Cabeiri are listed in alphabetic order. The fifth section of this thesis constitutes the settlements where Cabeiri coins took place. These settlements are also given in alphabetic order. Information concerning both Cabeiri coins and settlements where Cabeiri cult took place is given in the sixth section of this thesis. Information concerning the settlements where Cabeiri cults took place is given in the seventh section of the thesis. Cabeiri type is examined in three different types on the coins and other visual materials in the eight section of this thesis. 118

Kataloglar, Tez?in konusu dahilinde Büyük İskender döneminin başlancıyla sınırlandırılmıştır. Tez, konuyla ilgili antik kaynaklar ve modern çalışmaların yanı sıra yayımlanmış ve yayımlanmamış Thrakia Khersonesosu sikkelerini bir arada vererek bölge üzerine yapılacak tarihi ve arkeolojik çalışmalara yardımcı olmayı amaçlamıştır.Anahtar kelimeler: Nümismatik, Thrakia Khersonesosu, Sikke, Gelibolu Yarımadası, Hellespontos This thesis focuses on the coins and the history of the Gallipoli peninsula which was known as Thracian Chersonessus in the Antiquity.During the research, ancient sources were mainly used as references. Moreover, benefiting from modern sources related to the topic, the history of Thracian Chersonessus until the time of Alexander the Great is aimed to be presented. First and foremost, the general history of Thracian Chersonessus, beginning from Prehistorical times, was covered in this thesis. Special importance and focus is given to the period in which Greeks? arrival to the peninsula took place. Subsequently, the cities of the peninsula are seperately observed and a numismatic corpus for each city is composed. The coins in the corpus has been limited up until the period of Alexander the Great. Gathering the information both from ancient and modern sources on the topic, as much as published and unpublished numismatic evidences, this thesis aims to assist to the future historical and archaeological studies related to the region. Keywords: Numismatic, Thracian Chersonesus, Coin, Gallipoli Peninsula, Hellespont, 204

Antik çağ metinleri Miletopolis'in Mysia sınırları içinde Apolloniatis, Miletopolitis ve Daskylitis gölleri yakınlarında yer aldığını anlatır. Araştırmacılar Miletopolis kentinin lokalizasyonu için üç yerleşim yerini önermişlerdir: Mihaliç (Karacabey), Kirmasti (Mustafa Kemalpaşa) ve Mustafa Kemalpaşa yakınlarında yer alan Melde. 1975 yılında Bursa Arkeoloji Müzesi'nin gerçekleştirdiği kurtarma kazısı çalışmaları sayesinde Miletopolis'in lokalizasyon sorunu çözülmüştür. Miletopolis, Bursa, Mustafa Kemalpaşa İlçesi'ne 4 km mesafede Üç Kurnalı Mevkii / Melde Bayırı'nda yer almaktadır. Miletopolis Antik Kenti hakkında antik dönemlerden edebi metinlerin az olmasına rağmen kentin gelişimi hakkında bilgi verebilecek tek kaynak kente ait sikkeler, Miletopolis ve çevresinde bulunan adak veya mezar stelleridir. Miletopolis, kendi bronz sikkelerini darp eden bir polistir. Miletopolis kenti MÖ 4. yüzyıldan MS 3. yüzyıla değin kesintisiz sikke darbı gerçekleşmiştir. Ancient texts describe that Miletopolis located near the lakes Apolloniatis, Miletopolitis and Dascylitis, within the borders of Mysia. Researchers have proposed three settlements for the localization of the city Miletopolis: Mihalic (Karacabey), Kirmasti (Mustafa Kemalpaşa) ve Melde that placed near the Mustafa Kemalpaşa. Thanks to the recovery excavation works that were made by Bursa Archaeological Museum in 1975, Miletopolis's localization problem was solved. Miletopolis is located in Üç Kurnalı locality / Melde foothill that is in 4 km distance to Mustafa Kemalpaşa town, Bursa. Although there are a few literary texts from ancient, about the ancient city of Miletopolis , the only sources that can provide information about the city development are coins of the city votive or grave steles that are found in and around Miletopolis. Miletopolis is a polis which minted Its own coins. Miletopolis town made uninterrupted minting of coins from BC. 4 till the AD. 3 century. Keywords: Miletopolis, Miletupolis. 141

Anahtar Kelimeler: Sanat Tarihi, Nümismatik, Sikke, Osmanlı, Para, İznik Müzesi Coins have been the most important instrument of payment used for shopping as from the first years they were minted. The information on the coins reveal the years when the sultans of the related countries have ascended the throne, the lands they conquered, and their economic and social conditions. Examination of the coins both at the museums and found in archaeological excavations will provide more information about the archaic states which have minted coins. Located in Marmara Region where the Ottoman State was founded, Iznik has an important place in history both in Ottoman Period and before that due to its geographical location. Nilufer Hatun Imaret which got built by Murad I in Ottoman period in honor of his mother, Nilüfer Hatun, is used as the Iznik Museum today. The coins minted by other states before the Ottoman period are explained briefly and information about the terms used on Ottoman coins, their material, mint technique, currencies and mints are provided in this study. Minting periods, mint dates of and inscriptions and embroideries on 151 coins selected from among the 4200 Ottoman coins at the Iznik Museum are compared with the coins minted in different periods and tried to be evaluated. Keywords: Art History, Numismatics, Coin, Ottoman, Money, Iznik Museum 473

ANADOLU MEDENİYETLERİ MÜZESİ'NDE BULUNAN PERS KRALLIK SİKKELERİ Özlem ÖZEN BAL İ.Ö. 550 yılında II. Kuroş tarafından kurulan Pers İmparatorluğu, İ.Ö. 330 yılında Büyük İskender'in III. Dara'yı mağlup etmesiyle birlikte tarih sahnesinden silinmiştir. II. OF PERSIAN EMPIRE IN THE MUSEUM OF ANATOLIAN CIVILIZATIONS Özlem ÖZEN BAL In 550 B.C., The Persian Empire had gone out of existence, by means of the defeat of III. Dara by Alexander the Great in 330, B.C. After he had destroyed the II. Kuroş Med Kingdom, he gained ground of the inner part of Anatolia and founded a great great empire on this big area, which is surrounded from Eagean coast to the Indus River and from Caspion coast to the Nile. II. Kuroş , known with the epithed of ''great'', didn't subjugated not only the capitol of Lidya Kingdom, Sard, but also made Anatolia under the Persian hegomany about 200 years,by defeating Kroisos, the King of Lidya, in 547, B.C. with the subjugation of Sard, Persians met the Kroisos’s coins, which was the first coins used by them. With the succeeding of I. Dara to the throne of Persians, the first coins of Persians were issued and started to be used this coins which had been named as ‘coins of empire’; had undergone some kind of changes after I. Dara and destroyet until the end of the Persian Empire.

OF PERSIAN EMPIRE IN THE MUSEUM OF ANATOLIAN CIVILIZATIONS Özlem ÖZEN BAL In 550 B.C., The Persian Empire had gone out of existence, by means of the defeat of III.
