    Un grupo de investigadoras del INCIPIT-CSIC inició en agosto de 2023, en el municipio de Forcarei en Pontevedra, una segunda campaña arqueológica en la aldea perdida de Silvaescura, situada en los lindes entre el monte de Soutelo y el de Trasdomonte. Los trabajos de campo se desarrollaron con la arqueóloga e investigadora Cristina Incio del Río, del Instituto de Ciencias del Patrimonio (Incipit-CSIC), como directora de intervención. Las labores previstas incluyeron trabajos de fotointerpretación, vuelo con dron, prospección intensiva, prospección geofísica y sondeos valorativos manuales. El equipo científico inició un primer proyecto en la aldea de Silvaescura en agosto del 2022. La intervención llevada a cabo mostró el potencial arqueológico de esta aldea abandonada. Se realizaron excavaciones en los restos de dos edificaciones en las que se encontraron testimonios de la vida cotidiana de las familias campesinas que habitaron la aldea, fragmentos cerámicos de diferentes recipientes y vajilla, tejas, pesas de techo de colmo y fragmentos de potes metálicos de tres pies. Todo esto apunta a que se trata de antiguas viviendas ocupadas entre los siglos XVII o XIX, posible período de vida de la propia aldea. La nueva campaña tiene como objetivo determinar la extensión de la aldea y definir las viviendas que la compondrían. Para ello se utilizarán métodos no invasivos, como el uso de un gradiómetro en el entorno de las estructuras conocidas. Este aparato permite detectar muros enterrados donde luego se realizarán excavaciones arqueológicas. Todo ello permitirá saber más sobre la evolución, proceso constructivo y ocupación tanto de las viviendas conocidas hasta el momento como de otras que compondrían en su día la aldea de Silvaescura. La intervención está enmarcada en un programa de actuaciones más amplio centrado en el conocimiento sobre el poblamiento en la zona rural gallega en época moderna y contemporánea. Uno de los principales ejes de la investigación es el análisis del abandono y desaparición de estos pequeños núcleos de población, aldeas de las que solo se mantienen pequeños indicios y una memoria remota. Equipo científico: Directora de la intervención: Cristina-Incio-del-Río; Equipo arqueológico: Álvaro Falquina-Aparicio, Álvaro Moreno-Jiménez, Ángela Orosa-Queijo, David González-Álvarez, Fátima Rodríguez-Porto, Rafael Millán-Pascual, Rodrigo González-Camino, Vega Arribas-Greciano; Realización y edición de vídeo: Rubén Vuelta-Santín; Colabora: Concello de Forcarei; Música: Highway One - Steve Adams (YouTube Audio Library). The XSCAPE Team in Santiago de Compostela and its home institution INCIPIT-CSIC, have organised a Winter School, comprised of a series of four field sessions. XSCAPE and INCIPIT crew shared discussions and ideas about landscape, materiality and perceptual behavior. ERC-2020-SyG 951631 – XSCAPE Project 'Material Minds: Exploring the Interactions between Predictive Brains, Cultural Artefacts, and Embodied Visual Search'. Material Minds (acronym XSCAPE) is an ERC Synergy Grant project, as announced by the European Research Council on Nov 5, 2020. Material Minds Lab is the experimental facility of the XSCAPE Project based in INCIPIT-CSIC in Santiago de Compostela. The Material Minds research problem is, in short: How do the worlds we build alter our own minds and the ways we process information? Do the material structures of our settlements, buildings, roads, and artefacts actively change patterns of thought and attention, so that understanding change in these ‘material codes’ becomes part and parcel of understanding the emergence of the modern mind? The PIs of XSCAPE are Felipe Criado-Boado (corresponding PI) of the INCIPIT-CSIC, Luis M. Martínez-Otero of the Institute of Neurosciences (joint centre of CSIC and UMH), Andy Clark, of the Departments of Informatics and Philosophy of the University of Sussex, and Johannes Müller, of the Institute of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology of Kiel University. The study was undertaken in a contemporary oil easel painting which was temporarily loaned from the Restoration-Conservation Laboratory of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona. Different varnish removal procedures were assessed over this painting, and, in order to analyse and compare the efficiency of the methods, several non-invasive and invasive techniques were applied. This dataset consists of images of the artwork (general and detail) and the results of the different cleaning procedures; the varnish removal test conditions performed; Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) spectra; Laser-induced Fluorescence (LIF) spectra; and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR Spectroscopy). This information allows for assessing the results achieved with each cleaning methodology. Images are presented in JPG format. All spectra are presented in CSV format, on a single page. Descriptions of the selected areas and the experimental conditions in which the spectra were taken and the name of the column values are included at the top of each page. To illustrate the artwork, we took one image of the painting considered in the study (Fig. 1) and a general image under UV light of the picture (Fig. 2). Additionally, we can see the outcomes of varnish removal in the detail photos digital microscopy images (Fig. 3), and in detail UV light photograph of one of the cleaned areas (Fig. 4). For kinetic LIBS, 1 file per each uncleaned and cleaned by different methods area is included. Each file is composed of 41 columns, the first one (x) for wavelength and, the other 40 (y) for intensity. For LIF, 1 file per sample of the analysis of the fluorescence of each un/cleaned area. Each file is composed of 2 columns (wavelength and intensity). For FTIR, 1 file for the characterisation of the varnish, which is composed of 2 columns, the first one indicates the wavenumber (x), and the second one the transmittance (y). [EN] The removal of aged varnish on artistic paintings is a delicate intervention and the use of UV laser for this purpose is of special relevance. In particular, the use of nanosecond-pulsed lasers operating at 213 nm has been noted to produce good results in mock-up samples, but it has not been tested in real artworks. In this paper, we report on the application of this procedure for the first time on a contemporary oil easel painting with naturally aged varnish. The obtained results were compared with those achieved using traditional solvents, specifically a mixture of ligroin:acetone. Additionally, hot water was used to remove surface dirt. The performance of the different cleaning procedures was assessed with a range of techniques, including low-power microscopy, UV lamp illumination, laser-induced fluorescence (LIF), and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). Of the tested treatments, the best performance is obtained by nanosecond laser irradiation at 213 nm using an adequate laser fluence (typically 0.14 J/cm2) that allows controlled and efficient removal of the outermost aged varnish layer without affecting the underlying non-aged varnish and paint layers. There are 4 folders that correspond to each technic employed for the analysis of the cleaning procedures, and 1 for the cleaning conditions description. The folder titled "PHOTOS" contains: Fig. 1 Image of the picture. Selected cleaned areas; Fig. 2 UV light image of the artwork; Fig. 3 Digital microscopy of area 6 (before and after cleaning); Fig. 4 Fluorescence under UV lamp before and after cleaning. The folder titled “LIBS” contains: LIBS_withoutcleaning; LIBS_deionizedwater; LIBS_solventmixture; LIBS_213nm,0.10 Jcm2; LIBS_213nm,0.14 Jcm2. The folder for “LIF” contains: LIF_withoutcleaning; LIF_deionizedwater; LIF_solventmixture; LIF_213nm,0.10 Jcm2; LIF_213nm,0.14 Jcm2. The folder “FTIR” contains: FTIR_varnish. The folder "Cleaning conditions description" contains the file "Cleaning treatments". This research was funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) through the project SCOCHLAS (Study and Conservation of Cultural Heritage with Lasers, PID2019-04124RBI00/AEI/1013039/501100011033), by the Community of Madrid through the project Top Heritage- CM (Tecnologías en Ciencias del Patrimonio, S2018/NMT_4372), and by the H2020 project IPERION HS (Integrated Platform for the European Research Infrastructure ON Heritage Science, GA 871034). L. Maestro-Guijarro’s participation was financed by a Youth Guarantee contract (CAM20_IQFR_AI_06) from the Community of Madrid. Peer reviewed

    2º Encontro de pesquisa, educação e socialização do Património dos Arcos de Valdevez. Braga/Extremo, Arcos de Valdevez. 27-28 de Outubro de 2023. No marco das investigações que nos últimos sete anos se estão a desenvolver no lugar do Extremo (Arcos de Valdevez) pela Unidade de Arqueologia e o Lab2PT da UMinho, foi possível estabelecer fortes redes de cooperação com a comunidade local que se traduziram em uma série de atividades de tipo científico, patrimonial e educacional coordenadas entre os cientistas e os agentes locais. Em 2023 obtivemos o projeto exploratório IN2PAST Da terra à Terra. Conexões para Territórios Sustentáveis (Land-CST) (EXPL/In2Past/2023/09) cujos objetivos incluem o desenvolvimento de ferramentas metodológicas para o estudo da paisagem, em colaboração com a comunidade local, com a intenção de reverter o conhecimento gerado na sustentabilidade patrimonial deste território afetado pela emigração, o despovoamento ou o envelhecimento da população. Em 2023, com o objetivo de transcender o olhar localizado neste território, convergiremos com as investigações desenvolvidas por outras equipas arqueológicas que centram o seu olhar nas paisagens rurais da época moderna e contemporânea. Em colaboração com o projeto Lectura arqueológica de tiempos largos sobre la formación de los paisajes rurales en el Noroeste ibérico (LEIRA) desenvolvido pelo Instituto de Ciencias do Patrimonio (INCIPIT-CSIC), iremos realizar um workshop para discutir metodologias de leitura arqueológica da paisagem e a reversão dos resultados em projetos co-construídos com as comunidades locais. Esta segunda parte, no sábado dia 28, será dedicada a desenvolver em Extremo várias atividades partilhadas entre os cientistas e os habitantes da aldeia.     Files in .gdf / .gephi (which can be read by GEPHI) to obtain the representation of a network where meeting places of objects are associated with their places of origin. The Python program represents the network for a given time interval. The mission of this text is to make the routines easy for an unfamiliar user. Databases usually require a standardization before being able to run a program on them, since the program has been programmed to receive the data in a specific way. The objective of the program is to filter certain years from a given database and generate the network between stamps and discovery sites. The program in question is called network-provinces.py and is written in Python 2.7.     Authors: Vuelta-Santín, Rubén; Incio del Río, Cristina; González Álvarez, David;

    Un grupo de investigadoras del INCIPIT-CSIC inició en agosto de 2023, en el municipio de Forcarei en Pontevedra, una segunda campaña arqueológica en la aldea perdida de Silvaescura, situada en los lindes entre el monte de Soutelo y el de Trasdomonte. Los trabajos de campo se desarrollaron con la arqueóloga e investigadora Cristina Incio del Río, del Instituto de Ciencias del Patrimonio (Incipit-CSIC), como directora de intervención. Las labores previstas incluyeron trabajos de fotointerpretación, vuelo con dron, prospección intensiva, prospección geofísica y sondeos valorativos manuales. El equipo científico inició un primer proyecto en la aldea de Silvaescura en agosto del 2022. La intervención llevada a cabo mostró el potencial arqueológico de esta aldea abandonada. Se realizaron excavaciones en los restos de dos edificaciones en las que se encontraron testimonios de la vida cotidiana de las familias campesinas que habitaron la aldea, fragmentos cerámicos de diferentes recipientes y vajilla, tejas, pesas de techo de colmo y fragmentos de potes metálicos de tres pies. Todo esto apunta a que se trata de antiguas viviendas ocupadas entre los siglos XVII o XIX, posible período de vida de la propia aldea. La nueva campaña tiene como objetivo determinar la extensión de la aldea y definir las viviendas que la compondrían. Para ello se utilizarán métodos no invasivos, como el uso de un gradiómetro en el entorno de las estructuras conocidas. Este aparato permite detectar muros enterrados donde luego se realizarán excavaciones arqueológicas. Todo ello permitirá saber más sobre la evolución, proceso constructivo y ocupación tanto de las viviendas conocidas hasta el momento como de otras que compondrían en su día la aldea de Silvaescura. La intervención está enmarcada en un programa de actuaciones más amplio centrado en el conocimiento sobre el poblamiento en la zona rural gallega en época moderna y contemporánea. Uno de los principales ejes de la investigación es el análisis del abandono y desaparición de estos pequeños núcleos de población, aldeas de las que solo se mantienen pequeños indicios y una memoria remota. Equipo científico: Directora de la intervención: Cristina-Incio-del-Río; Equipo arqueológico: Álvaro Falquina-Aparicio, Álvaro Moreno-Jiménez, Ángela Orosa-Queijo, David González-Álvarez, Fátima Rodríguez-Porto, Rafael Millán-Pascual, Rodrigo González-Camino, Vega Arribas-Greciano; Realización y edición de vídeo: Rubén Vuelta-Santín; Colabora: Concello de Forcarei; Música: Highway One - Steve Adams (YouTube Audio Library). The XSCAPE Team in Santiago de Compostela and its home institution INCIPIT-CSIC, have organised a Winter School, comprised of a series of four field sessions. XSCAPE and INCIPIT crew shared discussions and ideas about landscape, materiality and perceptual behavior. ERC-2020-SyG 951631 – XSCAPE Project 'Material Minds: Exploring the Interactions between Predictive Brains, Cultural Artefacts, and Embodied Visual Search'. Material Minds (acronym XSCAPE) is an ERC Synergy Grant project, as announced by the European Research Council on Nov 5, 2020. Material Minds Lab is the experimental facility of the XSCAPE Project based in INCIPIT-CSIC in Santiago de Compostela. The Material Minds research problem is, in short: How do the worlds we build alter our own minds and the ways we process information? Do the material structures of our settlements, buildings, roads, and artefacts actively change patterns of thought and attention, so that understanding change in these ‘material codes’ becomes part and parcel of understanding the emergence of the modern mind? The PIs of XSCAPE are Felipe Criado-Boado (corresponding PI) of the INCIPIT-CSIC, Luis M. Martínez-Otero of the Institute of Neurosciences (joint centre of CSIC and UMH), Andy Clark, of the Departments of Informatics and Philosophy of the University of Sussex, and Johannes Müller, of the Institute of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology of Kiel University. VIDEO PRODUCERS: Rubén Vuelta-Santín, Felipe Criado-Boado; PRODUCTION: INCIPIT-CSIC; PHOTOGRAPHS: Carlos Fernández-Piñar; ENGLISH REVIEW: Jadranka Verdonkschot; ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: Jaime Almansa-Sánchez, Technical Staff of Parque Arqueológico del Arte Rupestre de Campo Lameiro, Technical Staff of Parque Arqueológico de la Cultura Castrexa Lansbrica, Members of INCIPIT-CSIC that actively participated in the activity. 2º Encontro de pesquisa, educação e socialização do Património dos Arcos de Valdevez. Braga/Extremo, Arcos de Valdevez. 27-28 de Outubro de 2023. No marco das investigações que nos últimos sete anos se estão a desenvolver no lugar do Extremo (Arcos de Valdevez) pela Unidade de Arqueologia e o Lab2PT da UMinho, foi possível estabelecer fortes redes de cooperação com a comunidade local que se traduziram em uma série de atividades de tipo científico, patrimonial e educacional coordenadas entre os cientistas e os agentes locais. Em 2023 obtivemos o projeto exploratório IN2PAST Da terra à Terra. Conexões para Territórios Sustentáveis (Land-CST) (EXPL/In2Past/2023/09) cujos objetivos incluem o desenvolvimento de ferramentas metodológicas para o estudo da paisagem, em colaboração com a comunidade local, com a intenção de reverter o conhecimento gerado na sustentabilidade patrimonial deste território afetado pela emigração, o despovoamento ou o envelhecimento da população. Em 2023, com o objetivo de transcender o olhar localizado neste território, convergiremos com as investigações desenvolvidas por outras equipas arqueológicas que centram o seu olhar nas paisagens rurais da época moderna e contemporânea. Em colaboração com o projeto Lectura arqueológica de tiempos largos sobre la formación de los paisajes rurales en el Noroeste ibérico (LEIRA) desenvolvido pelo Instituto de Ciencias do Patrimonio (INCIPIT-CSIC), iremos realizar um workshop para discutir metodologias de leitura arqueológica da paisagem e a reversão dos resultados em projetos co-construídos com as comunidades locais. Esta segunda parte, no sábado dia 28, será dedicada a desenvolver em Extremo várias atividades partilhadas entre os cientistas e os habitantes da aldeia. Video production: Rubén Vuelta-Santín (INCIPIT-CSIC), David González-Álvarez (INCIPIT-CSIC); Music: The Nexus Riddim - Konrad OldMoney (YouTube Audio Library). Peer reviewed

    Files in .gdf / .gephi (which can be read by GEPHI) to obtain the representation of a network where meeting places of objects are associated with their places of origin. The Python program represents the network for a given time interval. The mission of this text is to make the routines easy for an unfamiliar user. Databases usually require a standardization before being able to run a program on them, since the program has been programmed to receive the data in a specific way. The objective of the program is to filter certain years from a given database and generate the network between stamps and discovery sites. The program in question is called network-provinces.py and is written in Python 2.7.
